SCANDINAVIA

This May was our 10th wedding anniversary (where does the time go?)!  So we decided that we wanted to do a big trip to a place that neither of us had ever been.  Scandinavia has been on our list of must sees.  Plus we always love to escape the Texas heat in August.  The trip was a whirlwind.  We flew to Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo, Bergen, and New York City.  Coincidentally my mom (who has done a ton of ancestry tracing) sent in my DNA sample.  She got it back one day and told me that Brent and I were going to my homeland.  The results showed that my biggest ethnicity make-up is Scandinavian.  Who knew?!  Anyhow, it was a wonderful trip!  We both have a passion for experiencing and learning new things.  I, as always, loved getting to see my man the whole time.  He's so fun and easy to be with.  It's been an amazing 10 years and I look forward to the next 10!  I wouldn't want to do life with anyone else.  I love you, Nabors.

City Hall

Icebar

Skansen
The world's first open-air museum.

Vasa Museet
This museum was incredible, and is now Brent's favorite.  The photos don't do it justice, neither in beauty nor size (especially since they were taken using our outdated iphones).

COPENHAGEN, Denmark

We absolutely fell in love with the city of Copenhagen.  It's very different and unique from other European cities we've visited.  The architecture is gorgeous, including the modern buildings.  There was so much life along the river; it had a very young and vibrant atmosphere.

Christiania

Rosenborg Castle

Little Mermaid
National Gallery of Denmark

Grundtvigs Kirke
This beautiful church was pretty far outside of the city center, but we had done our research prior to the trip and made our way there.  It was worth it!

Carlsberg

Tivoli Gardens
Est. 1843, the second oldest amusement park.

  OSLO, Norway

We enjoyed our time in Oslo.  I was excited to see the Oslo Opera House.  The museums were great!  We loved the pedestrian area near the Oslo Fjord, Aker Brygge - Tjuvholmen.

The Munch Museet, outside of the city, was amazing!

Aker Brygge & Tjuvholmen

Astrup Fearnley Museet
Designed by Renzo Piano.  Modern and contemporary art museum.

We ate dinner at Rorbua one evening.  Brent had the whale.
I ate the reindeer.

The Viking Ship Museum

The old ships were gorgeous!

Frognerparken (Vigelandsparken)
The largest sculpture park in the world composed of a single artist (Gustav Vigeland).  There are more than 200 sculptures in the park.

The baby's hand is bronze in color, because rubbing his hand is said to give good luck.

BERGEN (& Flam), Norway

Bergen may be the most beautiful town on earth!  It was by far our favorite part of the trip, and I am so glad it was our last stop.  Bergen is known as the gateway to the Fjords.
Bryggen, the Wharf area, is absolutely stunning!

The always busy, Fish Market in town.  Brent bought some whale jerky here.  We also had lunch in the market one afternoon.

The Floibanen Funicular takes you from the base to the top of Mount Floyen for spectacular views of the town.

From the top of Mount Floyen, we walked back down to the city center, winding through the beautiful neighborhood.  It's such a beautiful town!

One day we took the Bergen Railway, which is the highest railway line in Northern Europe, over to the small town of Flam.  To return to Bergen, we took the Sognefjord cruise.
Kjosfossen, a waterfall on the way to Flam.  The train stopped for about 10 minutes so that you could step off and take photos.

We had lunch at Aegir Brewery in Flam.  It was gorgeous!  The craft brewery was built in the Norse Viking style and is reminiscent of a Stave Church.  The food was delicious and...
Brent was so excited that I actually found a "real" beer that I like.  Too bad you can only get it here, at the brewery.  LOL.
